Prototype of Electric pipes for the Antipode Project | Winter 2016 |
Negar Adibpour and Marie-Christine Dupuis | Professor Aaron Sprecher
The electrical pipes that form the inside layer of the dome aim to distribute light throughout the building by mimicking the sun during polar nights. The prototype is a section of one of these electrical pipes, made of half of a PVC pipe lined with 2 LED light strips. In order to reduce the consumption of electricity, several mirrors were placed along the pipe at specific angles relative to the lights. It has the effect of multiplying the rays as well as increasing the diffusion of light outside of the pipe. The direction and intensity of the light can be modulated by another PVC pipe, also covered with mirrors, that rotates around the electrical pipe.
