Universality, by definition, encompasses all beings without distinction. As a result, a home with a mobility-impaired person or a wheelchair, while requiring special attention for its layout, must be a living space whose layout does not reduce an individual to his condition. our intention was therefore to offer a housing with a flexible and timeless design.
In other words, we offer a living space whose furnishings adjust to any type of use and user, according to immediate needs, or adaptable to future or unforeseen conditions. In addition, all the elements of the housing are made of wood, thus offering to its tenant refinement, heat and sobriety.
we have arranged the space by considering the necessary maneuvering areas for a wheelchair user. It is with this intention that we propose to replace the sliding door of the bathroom by a flexible partition, in slats of wood, on rail. This gesture in roundness, ergonomic and rhythmic then dictated the formal language of the whole housing. The most important issue of a development from a perspective of universal accessibility, turns out to be the height of the elements that compose the furnishings. By specifically addressing this issue of heights - in addition to that of movement areas previously presented - our housing proposal can accommodate people of all conditions (loss of mobility, wheelchair, dwarfism, gigantism, aging). Indeed, we imagined a simple hanging system of furniture that offers users the ability to adjust the height of storage and work surfaces according to their needs. This solution, in addition to empowering people who may have disabilities, ensures better ergonomics of space in general.
